Iva Tori (Ivana Lazić) —
The Book of Sand / Jorge Luis Borges
(paints, wood elements, 2016)
The Book of Sand is an interactive art book that is designed in the form of a rhombicuboctahedron (an Archimedean solid with eight triangular and eighteen square faces) which can be turned around and readout. The squares are filled with text and abstract illustrations which are following the story, while the triangles are presenting Sierpinski fractals. The idea behind this portraiture is that the book literally exploded (like Big Bang) into described shape, which contains information on it, as a symbol of mathematic eternity. As Borges himself writes in his story about hidden mysteries in numbers and geometry of infinity of time and space, the piece covers these motives by illustrating them in a poetic and narrative way.
